Awbury Arboretum is this magical gem located in Philly’s Germantown. The 55 acre grounds are centered around the Francis Cope House, a classic example of the old Philly architecture I have grown to love since moving to the city. I understand why Lisa and John chose this stunning location for their wedding.

The arboretum has changed so much since then, though. Previously it was more of a DIY event space, with only one person on staff to help coordinate wedding events. It has grown substantially as a coveted wedding venue, with a permanent tent space, wedding planner, and designated caterer. I was excited to see the changes that were made to one of my favorite locations.

My time with Lisa and John didn’t start at the arboretum, though, but in the bustle of downtown Philadelphia. While in the planning stages, Lisa and John said that they wanted some city shots to balance out the naturey pictures from the arboretum, so I suggested this super cool mural in Center City. I had a blast watching the two of them goof around in front of such a playful backdrop. The playfulness continued when we went to their apartment in South Philly to get a few shots of them in the doorway — the location of their first kiss (I know, so cute, right?). I also met their sweet puppers who could barely contain her excitement to see her people all dolled up for their big day. 

Fast forward to the arboretum, filled with Lisa and John’s friends and family. From a beautiful sunny day to an intimate summer evening under the cover of lindens and birches, it was just a happy day. I got to witness a beautiful moment of Lisa and John’s journey, doing what I love. What more could I ask for?
