Some of you may know this about me, but before I was a photographer I worked with kids. I’ve worked in a school library where the entire school had library class every week, I ran an afterschool program, and worked at various summer camps for the past 7 years of my life. For a long time, I said that I hated kids, but that’s not true. I was burnt out. But after taking a break from being with kiddos all the time, I realized that I do enjoy working with kids and I am able to channel all of my camp counselor on a Monday morning energy into your family session!  

Now let me tell you a little bit about this VERY energetic family. They have spent the past few years in Philly and were moving somewhere new, so they wanted to commemorate their time with a photoshoot by the Art Museum. Golden hour, at one of my favorite Philly spots, it was set to be an amazing shoot. But those kiddos did not want to stand still, like at all. Mom and Dad were getting worried about the outcome of the photos and kept apologizing for their energy. But you never have to apologize for kids being kids! I channeled that energy into a few running games to tire them out a bit. Then we played some games as a family, had tickle fights, and by the end of the night everyone was a little sleepier than they started, and I was able to get some really sweet shots of the kids and their soon to be new sibling.

Family sessions are all about thinking on your feet and being able to adapt in the moment. Each family is different and they come with their own quirks, but that is what I love about them so much!
