Philadelphia has a lot of beautiful historic wedding venues. Hill Physick House stands out as an elegantly-preserved museum with space to create a relaxed wedding day. Mila and Peter did just that. Their HIll Physick House wedding featured a tender ceremony and laid back dinner party reception.
A Hill Physick House wedding will definitely feel like you’re in Philadelphia. It has all the elegance of Society Hill’s historic homes, including stunning interiors with antique furniture and some really cool wallpaper in the hall. If you want classy wedding portraits, this is a great place to get them!
Even though it feels grand, Hill Physick House is a good space for more intimate weddings. The garden can hold up to 100 guests, but it works well for smaller weddings too. With a smaller guest count, it’s easier to create a dynamic layout and have seating for all of your guests. Mila and Peter did a great job of using this space to its full potential. They had both their ceremony and seated dinner outdoors. There was plenty of space for all of their guests to enjoy themselves.
There are a few things you’ll want to consider for a Hill Physick House wedding.
Hill Physick house is one of several historic wedding venues in the Society Hill neighborhood. It was built in 1786, and its exterior is quintessentially Philadelphian. It has well-preserved red bricks and black and white shutters in the Federal style.
This wedding venue is actually a working museum. You can take public history tours there and learn about the house and surrounding neighborhood. It’s more exciting than it might sound! Dr. Physick (the “Physick” in Hill Physick House) was actually a physician. He treated big names in American history from his home office. The museum includes some of the surgical tools he invented.
Comparable venues to Hill Physick House include Powel House. They’re actually managed by the same company. (You can check out a Powel House wedding here.) While other venues tend to have more spacious interiors, a Hill Physick House wedding gets all the benefits of the shady garden. Hedges and trees surround the yard. It’s a great space for a ceremony or reception with a garden party atmosphere.
A Hill Physick House wedding was perfect for Mila and Peter. Mila had recently graduated from med school. She loved this wedding venue’s historic ties to the medical field. It was a perfect example of how even an old house in Society Hill can feel really personal for someone.
The celebration that Peter and Mila held was sweet and intimate. A small group of friends and family gathered in the lush garden for a thoughtful ceremony. Flowers bloomed along the brick walkway. Peter and Mila really didn’t need an arbor or anything else to make the ceremony spot feel special. The setting itself was enough. Everyone felt like they were a world apart while they watched these two high school sweethearts tie the knot.
Peter and Mila wanted their Hill Physick House wedding to feel like a laid back dinner party. It’s safe to say that they achieved that! They had two long tables set up in a cozy corner of the garden. The guests took advantage of the seating to connect, and it made watching speeches comfortable for everyone. Colorful flowers and table linens made the space feel extra festive.
What stood out to me about Mila and Peter’s reception was how much time they were able to spend with each of their guests. They kept their guest list small and didn’t try to pack a lot of events into their timeline. This made it possible for them to connect with everyone who attended and still have time for the sweet in-between moments with each other.
