Before I get into the question of getting engagement photos taken, let me just put a little disclaimer out there. This is not a blog about me upselling clients, this is my honest opinion from my personal and past client experiences.
Odds are you have never had professional photos taken of you. Now I am not talking school pictures where they comb your hair wrong, tilt your head in an unnatural position and you smile awkwardly for what feels like an eternity. Having a professional take your photos for an hour or so where you are free to laugh, move around and have fun can be scary to think about. But I think they are so so important.
I love being able to take engagement photos of my wedding couples for the same reason. I love learning more about them as individuals and as a couple. Learning how much or how little direction I need to give them. I have had couples who couldn’t keep their hands off of each other, and ones who need to be encouraged to hold hands. All of these things are so important to know before your wedding day so your photos can come out the best they can be.
So to answer the first question: yes, you should get engagement photos taken. Not only are engagement photos helpful for me, but after a session with me, couples leave feeling more connected than before. When was the last time you spent an hour walking around with your partner snuggling and kissing without any other distractions? I bet it has been a while. So put on something cute and let’s take some photos together!
