A Valley Green Inn wedding provides a peaceful escape. It’s perfect for connecting with friends and family in an intimate setting full of natural beauty. Sarah and Tim’s sweet wedding at the Valley Green Inn had so many incredible candid moments.
The Valley Green Inn has modern woodland fairytale vibes. You actually have to drive over a bridge and through the woods to get to the gravel road that leads to the inn. It overlooks the Wissahickon Creek and surrounding forest. The building itself is simple – white with dark shutters and a big, inviting porch.
A Valley Green Inn wedding ceremony could take place in the park. You’ll just need a permit. Otherwise you can have it on the grounds of the inn. Some couples choose to tie the knot on the bank of the creek. Sarah and Tim made their outdoor ceremony space a little extra special with a wood arbor and floral installation. The sun glittered on the water behind them for an extra touch of magic.
After the ceremony, the reception is held on the Valley Green Inn patio. The patio is covered, which provides some peace of mind whatever the weather. Strings of market lights glow overhead. It’s a cozy place to take in the landscape and enjoy a good meal. Floral arrangements elevate the simple white linens. There’s also space for a first dance.
The Valley Green Inn is a wedding venue with a distinctly Philadelphian history. William Penn himself purchased the land in 1685. The land passed among various owners until the government built Lincoln Drive. The first iteration of the Inn, the Valley Green Hotel, opened to house visitors enjoying the creek around 1850. Over the twentieth century, some of Philadelphia’s most prosperous families contributed to its restoration. Since the 1930’s, the inn has been run as a private business within Wissahickon Valley Park.
In addition to the historic building, the forest of Wissahickon Valley Park adds to the fairytale atmosphere of a Valley Green Inn wedding. The park winds through the Mount Airy, ChestnutHill, and Roxborough neighborhoods. It boasts 50 miles of hiking trails around the forested gorge. As you can imagine, all of this lush nature features prominently in any experience at the Valley Green Inn. The woods add to the beauty in a different way each season. Fall weddings benefit from the beautiful red and orange leaves of the season.
Sarah and Tim added a festive element to the natural beauty with their florals. Sarah wore flowers in her hair, and richly hued blooms filled out her bouquet. The red and gold flowers celebrated the season and felt very natural in the surroundings. Amaranth, eucalyptus, and fern fronds gave a whimsical sense of movement to the arrangements on the arbor and reception tables. Peach and purple flowers added tasteful vibrancy. Sarah and Tim even gave out succulents as favors!
The pandemic put a pause on Valley Green Inn wedding for a while, but they didn’t stop making big life moves. In the time between their original date and their fall 2021 wedding, Sarah and Tim bought a house and had a baby! Sarah and Tim’s daughter played a big part in their celebrations. Some of the sweetest photos from the day are of the three of them together.
Aside from the florals, Sarah and Tim DIYed a lot of their wedding. Nothing felt generic or misaligned with them. The atmosphere surrounding the day was natural and comfortable – a family affair from the start. There’s something special about the image of Tim and a family member folding up the travel crib. It’s an act of love that gives a glimpse of how the day really was.
Of course, there were lots of romantic moments too. The forest made a beautiful backdrop for Tim and Sarah’s portraits. Afterward, their emotional ceremony warmed everyone’s hearts. The smiles on the couple’s faces coming back up the aisle showed just how happy they were.
