Historic wedding venues in Philadelphia aren’t restricted to colonial mansions in OldCity. Meg and Marc’s Wyck House wedding had a quiet, garden party charm in the heart of one of Philadelphia’s residential neighborhoods. The colorful gardens provided the ideal spot for a laidback afternoon marked by joy and community.
Wyck House is a 300-year-old historic site. Nine generations of Quaker families farmed the land, and their home is preserved in beautiful detail. Even though you can’t rent the interior for weddings, there’s more than enough beautiful spots to enjoy in the acres of flower and vegetable gardens. Vibrant blooms fill the gardens in spring and summer. You get gorgeous photos, and your guests can have fun exploring.
Getting married at Wyck House is relatively inexpensive compared to many venues in the city. Rental fees range from $900-$1400 depending on the size of your event. It can accommodate up to 150 guests. The intimate atmosphere of the gardens is especially lovely for smaller weddings. In addition to the rental fee, there’s an additional fee of $125 per hour for wedding photography.
If you’re looking for a historic wedding venue in Philadelphia, Wyck House is very charming. There are a few quirks, though, that are helpful to know about during your planning process. The venue doesn’t have outdoor lighting, so your event has to wrap up by sunset. They also limit the volume of amplified music out of respect for their neighbors. This could be an issue if you want to party late into the night, but if you’re more excited for a relaxed afternoon with your people, Wyck House could be perfect.
Many Philadelphians don’t necessarily think of heading to Germantown to find a wedding venue, but it’s a cool neighborhood to spend your wedding day in. Wyck House is located on a quiet stretch of Germantown Avenue surrounded by brick businesses and old stone churches. There are lots of parks and restaurants nearby. This venue is removed from the busiest parts of the city but still just a 20 minute drive from Center City.
Marc and Meg’s Wyck House wedding felt like the best garden party. They played up the garden theme with yard games. This is the perfect alternative for marriers who don’t want the dance floor to be the center of their reception. It also gave the kids something fun to do. Other garden-themed details included a picnic basket to collect cards. The gingham looked picture perfect under the shade of a big tree.
It wouldn’t be a garden party wedding without incredible flowers. Red, pink, and purple flowers bloomed all around. Meg’s bouquet and the table arrangements created a seamless feeling between the pre-existing gardens and the wedding tent. Having a tent is always a good idea for an outdoor wedding, and it’s that much more enjoyable when it feels like an extension of the gardens.
Meg and Marc actually met during the pandemic. Their garden party wedding at Wyck House happened on a timeline that was faster than some, but it felt just right for them. You can tell from their photos that they radiated joy all day.
Based on the speeches during their reception, you would think that Meg and Marc had been together for a lot longer. All of their friends wrote really beautiful speeches about their relationship, and I could tell that their community is really supportive. That kind of community and warmth always makes a wedding extra special to document.
On top of the contributions from friends and family, this wedding felt deeply personal to Marc and Meg because of the venue itself. Marc used to live across the street from Wyck House. He used to visit it often. We even took some photos outside his old apartment. Those photos feel like a full circle moment that made the day unique.
