The Moshulu Philadelphia is a unique wedding venue. Instead of the usual restaurant or converted warehouse, it’s a historic ship docked at Penn’s Landing. A and B had a beautiful wedding with a ceremony on deck followed by a reception in the cabin.
In this blog post, we explore:

Moshulu Philadelphia is actually a restaurant aboard a historic ship. If you’ve taken a walk along Penn’s Landing, you’ve probably seen its navy blue prow and white masts towering over the water. It’s a cool reminder of what life might have been like when people pulled their boats right up to Old City and deboarded along Front Street.

There are five rooms available at Moshulu for private events. Ceremonies typically take place on deck with a reception in one of the dining rooms. The largest dining room is the most beautiful with dark woodwork and big windows. All around the venue has an elegant aesthetic.

Here are some quick facts to help you plan your wedding at Moshulu Philadelphia:

Moshulu has a lot of amenities available that reduce the number of vendors you have to book for your wedding day. They include

If you’re looking for a historic wedding venue in Philadelphia, Moshulu is just about the most unique you can find. The ship was originally built in Scotland in 1904. Its German owners sailed it around the world until the U.S. commandeered it during World War I. The U.S. government employed it during World War II before retiring it.

Since then, investors restored it and transformed it into a permanent restaurant. Moshulu has appeared in The Godfather Part II and Rocky among other locally filmed movies.

A and B had their fall wedding at Moshulu Philadelphia. I met them in Old City for portraits on the walk to the ship. We took full advantage of the cobblestone streets, brick houses, and autumn foliage. It gave them a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before arriving at their venue.

Family members met up with us along the way. We took group portraits before getting caught up in the ceremony and following celebration. The neighborhood provided an incredible backdrop for photos that A, B, and their family members will treasure.

Moshulu Philadelphia was a dreamy place for a fall wedding. A and B couldn’t have asked for better weather. The sun shone brightly, and guests enjoyed a light breeze as they settled into their seats for the ceremony.

Like their whole wedding day, A and B’s ceremony was sweet and emotional. Everyone teared up and laughed along with them when they exchanged their vows. They were so expressive that I loved photographing this part of the day.

Before joining their guests for cocktail hour, A and B stole away to soak up some newlywed time with just me tagging along. They fully embraced the joy of the moment and headed back to land to snuggle.

Guests loved exploring the ship during the reception. They walked between the deck and the dining area laughing and talking. Even though we were docked right in the city with the Philly skyline in the background, it felt like we were in our own world on the water.

Moshulu Philadelphia is an amazing place to take wedding photos. As a Philadelphia wedding photographer, I’m always inspired by new spaces. Moshulu was no exception.

Typically, I take a more documentary approach to wedding photography. Candid photos tell the story of your wedding day in the way you’ll want to remember. Plus, a lot of people who don’t love being photographed prefer this to a super posed approach.

A and B’s gallery is a great example of what you can expect when you work with me. Their photos are fun and emotional, just like their wedding day. They center A and B’s personalities over trends. That makes the images all the more special.
